OnePlus’ next budget TWS headphones, the Buds Z2 started off with a few leaks, and today we’re getting a third. It doesn’t reveal too much we didn’t already know, but rather serves as confirmation that the previous two were on the right track.
The most notable upgrade from the Z2 Buds will be the 3 microphones used for active noise reduction and an improved design that handles wind better. The earphones are protected against water and sweat with IP55 certification while the charging case gets IPX4.
The Buds will support Bluetooth 5.2 but no advanced audio streaming codec, so they will rely on basic AAC and SBC. Sound is produced by 11mm speakers.
Each bud sports a 40mAh battery while the case holds another 520mAh cell. The charging time of the box from 0 to 100% is 90 minutes and the total reading time goes up to 27 hours with noise reduction activated or 38 hours without it. Without the case, the heads get a respectable 5h play time with ANC on and 7h with ANC off. That’s a big bump from last year’s Buds Z which peaked at 5 hours.
The case itself charges via USB-C, of course, but doesn’t support wireless charging. Each bud weighs only 4.6g while the box goes up to 42g depending on the color, which is either Night Black or Day White.
